British Zoo Escape: Bears Mish and Lucy Devour a Week's Worth of Honey

British Zoo Escape: Bears Mish and Lucy Devour a Week's Worth of Honey

A stunning escape occurred at the Escot Park wildlife park in Devon, England, on the afternoon of the 23rd, involving two rescue bears from Albania, Mish and Lucy. Their escape prompted police intervention. During their time outside, they managed to consume an entire week’s supply of honey stored in a pantry.

According to reports, the five-year-old sibling bears were rescued by a conservation group and relocated to the Wildwood Devon sanctuary in 2021 after a fundraising campaign. They had previously been placed in Belgium but could not return to the wild. The zoo staff confirmed that the bears posed no danger to visitors during their escape and followed standard procedures to guide guests to safety.

Conservation staff initiated ground patrols and utilized surveillance systems to track the bears, ultimately managing to secure them back within their enclosure in less than an hour. Wildwood Devon issued a statement, noting, “After escaping, Mish and Lucy went straight to the storage area and indulged in a significant amount of food, including a week's supply of honey. Fortunately, they remained calm throughout and displayed no aggressive behavior.”

Devon and Cornwall police reported that they quickly dispatched personnel to assist after receiving the alert. The zoo has now increased security measures and is collaborating with authorities to investigate the incident's cause. The situation is under control, and the bears are described as docile, with the zoo expressing gratitude for the cooperation and calm response of staff and visitors. The zoo emphasized that Mish and Lucy are favorites among guests and will continue to enhance their facilities and safety measures, with plans to reopen as usual the next day.
