Trump Demands NATO Allies Increase Defense Spending to 5% at Summit, Allies on Edge

U.S. President Trump has once again demanded NATO allies raise their defense budgets to 5% of GDP, warning that if they refuse, the U.S. may withdraw from NATO or leave Europe to defend itself against aggression. In response to this demand, NATO members are actively restructuring their spending.

In light of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, many countries have gradually increased defense expenditures over the past two to three years. By 2023, 23 nations have reached the military budget threshold of 2% of GDP. However, most countries' defense spending remains significantly below Trump's anticipated 5% target.
