Epic Games' Fortnite Returns to the U.S. App Store After Five-Year Battle

Epic Games' Fortnite Returns to the U.S. App Store After Five-Year Battle

After securing support from the courts, Epic Games has successfully brought Fortnite back to the U.S. App Store, marking a significant victory in a five-year legal battle.

This return demonstrates that Epic Games has made certain strides in its ongoing disputes with Apple, especially in the European and U.S. markets.

The initial conflict arose when Apple accused Epic Games of directing players to external payment methods within the game, violating App Store guidelines. Epic argued that Apple's 30% commission was unreasonable, resulting in years of litigation.

The court ruled that Apple's actions violated market competition principles and ordered it to cease restricting alternative payment options in-app, thus protecting users' rights to pay through third-party methods. Furthermore, European regulators deemed Apple's practices as violations of the Digital Markets Act, requiring them to open up to third-party payment options.

Epic Games announced via social media that Fortnite is now live in the U.S. App Store and also available on the Epic Games Store and AltStore in Europe, with plans to appear in search results soon.
