Medical Error in Indian Maternity Hospital: Mother Chemically Burned by Hydrochloric Acid, Baby Safe

Recently, a shocking medical error occurred at a public rural hospital in Bhokardan, Jalna district of Maharashtra, India. Due to a cleaning staff's mistake, hydrochloric acid was incorrectly placed on a medication tray, and during childbirth, a nurse mistakenly applied the acid to the mother's abdomen, causing a chemical burn. Fortunately, the baby was born safe.

The incident took place on the 27th of the month. The victim is a pregnant woman named Sheela Bhalerao from Khaparkheda village. Reports indicate that during the delivery process, a nurse mistakenly used hydrochloric acid instead of a medical gel on Bhalerao's abdomen, resulting in a successful birth but serious chemical burns on her abdomen.

According to sources from the hospital cited by the Indian news agency, the error stemmed from a cleaner placing the acid bottle on the medication tray after cleaning. R.S. Patil, a civil surgeon in the Jalna district, stated: "This is a serious case of negligence. We have initiated a detailed investigation and will take strict measures against those responsible." This incident not only highlights severe flaws in the management of medical supplies but also raises public concerns about the safety and professionalism of the healthcare system in India.

The local government has promised a thorough investigation and will ensure that such mistakes do not happen again.
