Controversy Erupts Over China's New Game 'Revenge on Gold Diggers' Simplifying Emotional Fraud Issues

China's interactive movie game 'Revenge on Gold Diggers' launched on Steam on the 19th and quickly soared to the top of the sales charts in just two days, surpassing 'Black Myth: Wukong'. However, the term 'Gold Digger' in the game's title has drawn ire from Chinese media, criticizing it for stigmatizing women and provoking gender conflict. Despite this, the controversy has apparently garnered support from more male players.

In the game, players take on the role of 'Emotional Hunter' Wu Yulun, aiming to uncover emotional fraud perpetrated by female characters. Every character, from online streamers to café employees, is depicted as profiting from male counterparts. Additionally, the game features a collaborative message board for players to share their experiences, although it has been criticized as a hub for misogynistic statements.

Due to its controversial title, 'Revenge on Gold Diggers' was heavily criticized by the Chinese state media in its first day of release, with accusations that it uses derogatory language against women, stirring discussions around gender conflict. Nevertheless, the game's sales skyrocketed, achieving notable success in the global gaming market.

In light of the ongoing controversy, the official title was changed to 'Emotional Fraud Simulator', yet this move only intensified support from male players, leading to impressive sales results on Steam.
