'Interpreting Brother' Chao Yi-Hsiang to Resign as Taipei City Councilor for National Security Council Position

According to a report from online media "Minshi News Network," Chao Yi-Hsiang, the Democratic Progressive Party Taipei City Councilor known as 'Interpreting Brother,' is set to resign in July to assume a position at the National Security Council, although the exact role is yet to be determined. Chao later posted on Facebook, seemingly addressing these rumors.
Reports from reliable sources indicate that Chao initially planned to resign after the results of the large recall vote were announced on July 26, but he has decided to step down early before the recall vote. At 37 years old, Chao holds a Master's degree in International Economic Law from University College London and gained fame for his interpreting work during former President Tsai Ing-wen's inauguration in 2016, earning the nickname 'Interpreting Brother.'
During President Tsai's administration, he served as the head of the political section at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the U.S. He announced his candidacy for Taipei City Councilor in 2021 and became an active member within the DPP. His resignation plan has drawn considerable public attention.
In a post on Facebook on the evening of the 29th, Chao mentioned spending time with his family at the Tomica 50th anniversary exhibition in Huashan, emphasizing that his main responsibilities during the week include council tasks and assisting with the smooth execution of the recall vote on the 726.
