Thai Actor Wanlop Returns to Taiwan, Jokes About Learning Chinese through Wu Bai's Songs

Thai actor Wanlop Rungkumjad, nominated for Best Actor at the Golden Horse Awards last year, is again up for Best Actor at the Taipei Film Awards this year. He came to Taiwan to attend the awards ceremony and the premiere of the film ‘White Blood’. His first meal in Taiwan was beef noodles, and he is familiar with the local cuisine while continuing to learn Chinese. He often listens to the songs of Wu Bai and Power Station, joking, ‘Wu Bai is my Chinese teacher.’
Since its global premiere at the Cannes Film Festival last year, ‘White Blood’ has continued to receive international acclaim. Today (2nd), Wanlop attended a Taiwan premiere alongside Singaporean director Tseng Wei-Liang, Taiwanese director Yin Yow-Chiao, and other cast members. In the film, Wanlop plays an illegal migrant worker carrying deep emotional weight. Before ‘White Blood,’ he contemplated giving up acting but was deeply moved by the script, realizing that it may be challenging to encounter such a good script again in the future.
Wanlop looks forward to continuing to work in Taiwan and internationally and is still learning Chinese, hoping to return to Taiwan often. He also mentioned that if he wins an award, he would like to pass it around for everyone to sign, believing that without everyone, there would be no him or this film. ‘White Blood’ has started a touring release across Taiwan and will conduct various post-screening discussions and interactions with filmmakers.
