Ukraine Seeks Stronger EU Support Amid U.S. Policy Uncertainty

(Deutsche Welle) According to Reuters, Ukraine plans to ask the EU next week to implement new measures to isolate Moscow, including proposals to seize Russian assets and impose secondary sanctions on certain Russian oil buyers.
Since Trump took office, support for Ukraine has diminished, with Trump criticizing Ukrainian President Zelensky and opting against further sanctions against Russia, which has disappointed Ukraine and Europe. Kyiv seeks to push the EU to adopt a more independent stance in light of Washington's uncertain policies.
To this end, Kyiv is preparing to submit a white paper to the EU, calling for a more proactive approach regarding sanctions. The document suggests accelerating the seizure of assets from sanctioned individuals and considering sanctions against foreign companies that assist Russia.
The white paper notes that failing to maintain a firm stance on sanctions could undermine EU unity and that the impact of U.S. sanctions should not be underestimated. If the U.S. withdraws from sanctions, Europe would also face challenges.
