India-Pakistan Air Combat Highlights Taiwan's Need for F-35 and E-2D Acquisition

An intense air combat erupted between India and Pakistan in the early hours of May 7, with the Pakistan Air Force showcasing impressive performance by using Chinese-made J-10C fighter jets, successfully shooting down five Indian aircraft including Rafale, Su-30, and MiG-29. This incident sent shockwaves through the international military community. Su Tzu-yun, director of the National Defense Security Research Institute, emphasized that Taiwan should learn from this and accelerate its defense modernization process by actively pursuing the acquisition of U.S.-made F-35 fighter jets and E-2D early warning aircraft to enhance air defense capabilities.
Reports indicate that Pakistan's J-10CE, valued at $80 million, shot down the highly regarded Rafale fighter jet worth $250 million, attracting international attention. The root cause of this air combat lies in the sovereignty dispute in the Kashmir region, which has resulted in civilian casualties and heightened tensions between India and Pakistan.
