South Korean Marine Corps Completes Joint Island Defense Training

The South Korean Marine Corps completed its joint island defense training on the 23rd, aiming to enhance its defensive capabilities against the Northwest Islands and deter potential incursions and provocations from North Korea.

According to reports from the Korean News Agency, the training lasted three days starting from the 21st and was conducted at Baengnyeongdo and Yeonpyeongdo. Approximately 5,500 troops, 10 naval vessels, and over 40 aerial assets participated. Equipment such as K239 multiple rocket launchers, K9 self-propelled howitzers, and AH-64 attack helicopters were used to simulate joint defense operations.

The exercise was based on the assumption that North Korea might attempt provocations using drones and strike capabilities to take over the Northwest Islands, practicing the firing procedures of K239 and K9. With support from the AH-64, they conducted amphibious landings to reclaim territory, successfully completing the training.
