Emergency Rescue as River Swells at Pingtung's Huijuan Valley, Nine People Saved

Pingtung's Huijuan Valley, known for its rare confluence of twin waterfalls, attracts many adventure seekers. However, continuous heavy rain recently caused the river to swell dramatically, leaving nine individuals stranded on the riverbank. Fortunately, the fire department was quick to respond and successfully rescued all individuals.
The victims had planned a river trekking trip in Pingtung and became trapped at a high point on the opposite bank due to the rising waters. Under the guidance of rescuers, the individuals wore life vests, secured rope, and cautiously approached the stream before leaping down. Rescuers on both sides quickly tightened the ropes and successfully brought everyone back to safety.
In a separate incident, a drowning was reported at the Shalawan Waterfall in the Maja Township, where a swimmer discovered an individual had drowned. The rescuers arrived but sadly found the victim had been deceased for some time. The victim, an elderly male, went missing in the mountains, and family members could not contact him, leading to this unfortunate event. Investigations are ongoing.
