Spain Calls for Sanctions Against Israel to Alleviate Gaza Humanitarian Crisis

On May 25, Palestinians in Khan Younis, southern Gaza, held funerals for those killed in Israeli attacks. Meanwhile, the 2 million residents of the Gaza Strip are facing a severe humanitarian crisis as Israel conducts large-scale ground operations called "Operation Gideon Tanks".
Spanish government officials on Sunday (25th) stated that sanctions against Israel should be considered to pressure for an immediate ceasefire and facilitate the unrestricted entry of supplies into the Gaza Strip. Spanish Foreign Minister Albares emphasized in a French media interview that humanitarian aid must enter Gaza in a "large, uninterrupted, and neutral" manner, asserting that "it is not for Israel to decide who gets to eat and who does not".
He stated, "We must consider sanctions, and we must make every effort to stop this aimless war." The meeting held in Madrid on the same day involved 20 countries and international organizations, aiming to "stop this war that no longer has any objective".
Last year, a similar meeting was held in Madrid, gathering nations including Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, as well as European countries like Ireland and Norway that have recognized the State of Palestine. The Sunday meeting also included representatives from the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
The Gideon Tanks operation commenced last Sunday, aimed at fully occupying the Gaza Strip, eliminating Hamas forces, or driving them out, and rescuing Israeli hostages held by Hamas. However, concerns have been raised that this may lead to the complete expulsion of the Palestinian people from Gaza. European countries seem to be losing patience with Israel's seemingly endless war; the UK, France, and Canada issued a rare joint condemnation of Israel on the 19th, calling for an immediate ceasefire. The European Union (EU) also decided to review its cooperation agreement with Israel.
If Israel's goal is to occupy all of Gaza, the Israeli military is gradually achieving this, with the areas controlled by Israeli forces now reaching 77% of the Gaza territory. The Hamas government controlling Gaza stated on Sunday that the areas currently under Israeli military control correspond to 77% of all of Gaza.
