Finland's First 'Boden Class' Patrol Ship Launched

Finland's First 'Boden Class' Patrol Ship Launched

According to a report by 'Naval News', Finland's first 'Boden Class' coastal patrol vessel was launched on the 21st. The vessel is expected to be one of four similar ships to be commissioned between 2027 and 2029, significantly enhancing the Finnish Navy's maritime combat capabilities.

The launch ceremony was held at the 'Rauma Marine Constructions' (RMC) facility. The ship will have its combat systems and weaponry installed by the Kongsberg company, and trials will follow upon completion of outfitting. These vessels will replace old missile boats and minesweepers to perform surface combat, anti-submarine warfare, mine laying, and escort missions, thereby improving maritime security for Finland and its Nordic allies.

The 'Boden Class' vessel measures 117 meters in length, with a beam of 16.5 meters and a standard displacement of 4,300 tons. It features a Combined Diesel and Gas system (CODLAG), achieving speeds of over 26 knots (48.15 km/h) with a range of 3,500 nautical miles. The ship is equipped with advanced combat management systems and various radars and sonars, providing excellent multi-mission capabilities.

This ship is designed to meet the environmental demands of the Baltic Sea, featuring ice-breaking capabilities and improved navigation performance in icy waters through twin-variable pitch propellers and a bow thruster. It is set to be Finland's largest operational warship in service, enhancing the deterrent capabilities against Russian aggression.
