Security for World Masters Games Focused on Public Service; Lost Medal of French Athlete Recovered

The World Masters Games' "Surf Rescue" competition has begun today at Fulong Beach, attracting both athletes and spectators for three days of events. The Ruifang Police Station in New Taipei City planned special operations not only to ensure safety and traffic order but also to serve the public effectively. A French athlete lost a medal during the sailing competition, and officers managed to find it buried in the sand, allowing him to take it back to France.

The 2025 World Masters Games will be hosted jointly by Taipei and New Taipei City, with the opening ceremony held at the Taipei Arena on May 17, followed by various competitions. Fulong Beach and the Blue Bay Coastal Recreation Area in New Taipei Gongliao are key venues for surf rescue, sailing, windsurfing, and beach volleyball, which have attracted a large influx of athletes and spectators.

The Ruifang Police Station stated that security operations are arranged in line with the games' requirements, conducting safety checks and patrols at competition sites while collaborating with volunteer police and civil defense units to establish real-time reporting and response mechanisms that ensure participants can compete comfortably and spectators can watch securely. The police emphasized that besides security, public service is also a key duty for frontline officers. For instance, Officer Lin Yourong from the Ruifang Police Station assisted a beach volleyball player in recovering a lost backpack, ensuring the player could focus on the match.

On May 19, a French sailing competitor lost his medal after the award ceremony and sought assistance from police. Through their efforts, the police located the medal, half-buried in the sand, and returned it to its rightful owner. Additionally, Officer Tsai Mengfang from the Shuangxi substation found an iPhone 16 on the beach volleyball court yesterday and returned it to a man who was cheering for the athletes.

The Ruifang Police Station mentioned that as the World Masters Games approach their conclusion, they will continue to adjust their operational strategies according to the number of attendees and the specifics of the competitions, striving to safeguard the events' safety while showcasing Taiwan's enthusiasm and high organizational capacity to the world.
