Tesla's European Sales Plummet by 52% as BYD Overtakes
Recent reports indicate that Tesla's sales in Europe plummeted by 52.6% in April, with only 5,475 vehicles sold, marking the lowest number in recent years. This steep drop has led to a significant shrinkage in Tesla's market share, resulting in the Chinese brand BYD overtaking Tesla for the first time, dropping Tesla to 11th place in sales rankings.
According to data provided by the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA), the decline in Tesla's sales coincides with rumors of CEO Elon Musk collaborating with former President Trump, along with a lack of new model releases affecting sales. Furthermore, Tesla's global sales also dropped by 13% in the first quarter. In contrast, Chinese brands saw a rapid increase in sales, with a 59% rise compared to the previous year in April.
Overall, the market share of electric vehicles in new car sales in Europe reached 15.3% in April, an increase of 26.4% from the previous year.
