Kao Yun-ting Thanks Attending Legislators as Only a Few Attend Legislative Session

As the deadline for the National Assembly's power reform law approaches its first anniversary, the Democratic Progressive Party's Legislative Yuan caucus reviewed the National Assembly's situation over the past year, pointing out that the alliance between the blue and white parties has led to a disorder in democratic operations, and specifically called out Legislative Speaker Kao Yun-ting as the 'three-box speaker', criticizing his uneven presiding and frequent black-box voting that has raised doubts about the order of the assembly.

During the session on the 27th, Kao Yun-ting humorously thanked the few legislators who attended, and although he accidentally struck the gavel, causing laughter in the room, it did not lessen the tense political atmosphere between the ruling and opposition parties. DPP legislator Chung Chia-pin criticized Kao Yun-ting for his lack of neutrality, claiming that legislative proposals are trapped in a 'black box', 'ice box', and 'emergency box' predicament, describing him as the most biased Legislative Speaker.

The DPP caucus gathered several legislators to criticize the assembly for its expansion of power to the detriment of public opinion, even labeling it as a 'constitutional violation and political turmoil', believing this is part of an ongoing democratic coup. Legislator Shen Po-yang questioned the transparency of the legislative review process, noting the significant discrepancies in some provisions from proposal to third reading, stating they are 'completely unrelated'.

In response to the DPP's attacks, the opposition Kuomintang countered by stating that the DPP's refusal to accept checks and balances is why they oppose the reform law. Legislator Chen Yu-jen stated that voters have made it clear they want the opposition party to check the ruling party, urging the DPP to reflect on whether they are abusing their power instead of blaming the chaos in the assembly on the opposition. While the political showdown continues to escalate, whether the assembly can return to normal operations remains reliant on cooperation and consensus between the ruling and opposition parties to avoid making conflict and disorder the new normal.
