Taichung Girls Make Cloth Pads to Promote Menstrual Health in Africa

May 28 is observed as "World Menstrual Hygiene Day," representing 5 for the average length of a menstrual period and 28 for the average menstrual cycle days. The Taichung City Government's Social Affairs Bureau actively promotes menstrual equity by providing free sanitary products at 111 social welfare locations across the city, distributing over 40,000 packs in the past three years.

The girls from the Taichung Daughter's Pavilion hand-sewed cloth pads to send to African tribes, aiming to enhance awareness of menstrual health among women. The Social Affairs Bureau noted that many women in Africa cannot afford disposable sanitary products due to resource and economic constraints, and this initiative seeks to improve their quality of life. The cloth pads are reusable and align with the United Nations' environmental sustainability goals.

Furthermore, the girls plan to use AI tools to create an electronic picture book themed around menstrual equity, showcasing their achievements in gender equality and STEM learning.
