President Lai Thanks European Nations for Supporting Peace in the Taiwan Strait

President Lai Ching-te attended the 2025 European Gala tonight and emphasized that Taiwan will collaborate with democratic countries, including Europe, to establish a "non-red supply chain." He pointed out that this initiative is necessary to counteract the red supply chain, which threatens market mechanisms.

President Lai mentioned that Europe is Taiwan's third-largest trading partner, with bilateral trade totaling $84.7 billion last year, reflecting the high trust between enterprises. He expressed that Taiwan looks forward to further institutionalizing bilateral trade and investment relations and promoting the signing of the "Taiwan-European Union Economic Partnership Agreement."

He also highlighted Taiwan's key role in the global supply chain restructuring, particularly in the semiconductor industry. Amid the expansion of supply chains dominated by new authoritarian groups, Taiwan aims to work with democratic countries to create a resilient and potential economic cooperation environment. He thanked the EU and European nations for their concrete actions in supporting stability and peace in the Taiwan Strait, which are crucial for regional security and prosperity.
