US Tariff Policy Sparks Controversy as Hsieh Chin-Ho Analyzes Three Major Issues Hindering America's Greatness

The tariff policy announced by US President Trump in April has drawn widespread attention, with the US International Trade Court making a significant ruling on the 28th, determining that the tariff policy exceeds presidential authority. This has sparked heightened market interest.
Hsieh Chin-Ho, chairman of Caixin Media, analyzed the current state of the US economy, highlighting three key issues. First, the US government debt has reached an astonishing $34 trillion, which is significantly higher than the total debt of the EU's 27 member states combined. Second, the US trade deficit continues to expand, reaching nearly $1 trillion last year. Third, the fiscal deficit has also climbed to $1.7 trillion, all of which indicates that the US economy is facing severe challenges.
Hsieh particularly emphasized that compared to the difficulties faced by the US, European countries have shown remarkable resilience. He stated, "Europe is expanding and striving to increase revenue; meanwhile, Trump is focused on austerity, and the larger his actions grow, the more they highlight America’s big problems." The recent ruling on the tariff policy has dealt a significant blow to the Trump administration. In addition, the central bank has expressed concerns over how the US tariff policy might impact Taiwan’s economy, urging close attention to the developments.
Moreover, Hsieh pointed out that the Southern European countries formerly known as the 'PIGS' are now demonstrating impressive economic recovery, standing in stark contrast to the US. He noted that the uncertainty surrounding Trump’s policies, coupled with the three structural issues facing the US, could affect the nation’s future development trajectory.
