Forever Mom: Italian Nun Zhao Xiurong Passes Away Peacefully

Italian nun Zhao Xiurong dedicated over sixty years of her life serving in the aboriginal mountains of Hsinchu, passing away peacefully at the age of 93. Known as 'Mom' by local residents, she symbolizes a nurturing figure for the community. At 29 years old, she journeyed from Sardinia, Italy, to Taiwan, committing herself to education and social services, especially in the remote area of Jianzi Township. Fluent in Mandarin, Taiwanese, and Hakka, she worked tirelessly to improve the lives of local residents with love and dedication.
In the 1960s, when resources were scarce, she founded the Franciscan preschool to enhance educational opportunities for children. 'I hope to give them a brighter future,' she said, embodying selflessness in her life's work. In 1993, she began collaborating with Tzu Chi volunteers, creating lasting bonds to support local families.
Volunteers fondly recall her warmth and dedication, which touched countless lives. Through her commitment, Zhao Xiurong instilled the message of divine love in Taiwan, living out her purpose until her peaceful passing.
