Hegseth: Trump Won't Allow China to Invade Taiwan During His Term, Warns of Xi Jinping's 2027 Plan

At the 2025 Shangri-La Dialogue security forum, U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth reaffirmed Trump's stance, stating that during his term, China will not invade Taiwan. He emphasized, "Our goal is to prevent war, to avoid excessively high costs, and to make peace the only option."
Hegseth made it clear that any military attempt by China to conquer Taiwan would have devastating consequences for the Indo-Pacific region and the world. He stated, "The threat China poses is real, and we will work with our great allies to build a strong deterrent shield to demonstrate the significance of achieving peace through strength."
He also noted that Xi Jinping has ordered the PLA to be capable of invading Taiwan by 2027, highlighting that military activities around Taiwan are closely linked to China's rapid military modernization. He urged nations to remain vigilant and prepared to face potential threats.
