China May Order Hundreds of Airbus Planes During German-French Leaders' Visit

French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz are set to visit Beijing in July to attend the 50th anniversary of Sino-European diplomatic relations. As major shareholders of Airbus, sources indicate that Chinese authorities are negotiating with various Chinese airlines regarding potential order sizes.
The order may include around 300 single-aisle and wide-body aircraft, with estimates ranging between 200 and 500 units. If the final intent order reaches 500 planes, it would become one of the largest aircraft orders in history and certainly the largest aircraft procurement deal in China’s history, surpassing the 300 single-aisle jets ordered from Airbus in 2022, valued at approximately €33 billion.
Bloomberg highlights that if this highly anticipated aircraft order materializes, it could assist Chinese President Xi Jinping in sending political signals to U.S. President Trump regarding trade issues.
