California Doctor Suffers Permanent Damage from Spicy Thai Dish, Sues Restaurant

A neurologist from San Jose, California, Dr. Harjasleen Walia, is suing a restaurant named 'Coup de Thai' after suffering permanent damage to her mouth, esophagus, and vocal cords from an excessively spicy appetizer called 'Dragon Balls'.
According to reports, Dr. Walia filed a lawsuit in July 2023 in Santa Clara County Superior Court, alleging that the restaurant's dish caused her harm. She claimed she asked the staff to tone down the heat but ultimately could not handle the spice.
Although the restaurant denied all allegations and stated that they have never heard of a customer needing medical attention due to the spicy dishes, Dr. Walia continues to seek compensation for her medical expenses and loss of work.
The legal proceedings are ongoing, and Dr. Walia opted to represent herself in May, but she has not disclosed the reason for her decision.
