Funeral Mass for Sister Chao Hsiu-Jung from Italy, Mayor Yang Wenkwo Attends to Express Gratitude

Sister Chao Hsiu-Jung from Italy passed away on May 30 at the age of 93. Last Friday, a funeral mass was held at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Hsinchu. Hsinchu County Mayor Yang Wenkwo attended to express his gratitude for her selfless dedication to educating children in rural areas.
Photographs documenting Sister Chao's lifelong service decorated the walls, as she devoted over sixty years to helping countless children living in remote areas. Bishop Lee Kermian of the Hsinchu Catholic Diocese remarked that Sister Chao's dedication contributed to the thriving development of the local community, particularly in training women’s sewing skills.
In addition to spreading the Gospel, Sister Chao also built churches, established nurseries, and sewing classes. In 2017, she obtained Taiwanese citizenship while holding dual citizenship with Italy. During the farewell ceremony, Mayor Yang presented a commendation to honor Sister Chao's lifelong contributions.
Sister Chao had expressed that “Taiwan is my country, I will always love Taiwan,” bringing educational opportunities and warmth to countless indigenous children, proving that love knows no borders.
