Grynkewich Nominated to Lead EUCOM and NATO Allied Forces

The Trump administration announced on the 5th the nomination of Major General Alexus Grynkewich of the U.S. Air Force to serve as the Commander of the European Command (EUCOM) and Allied Forces for NATO (SACEUR). He will replace General Cavoli, who has served since June 2022. This appointment is aimed at deepening cooperation between U.S. forces and allies and maintaining defense capabilities in Europe.
According to Defense News, the Trump administration revealed this nomination, and the NATO North Atlantic Council subsequently issued a statement approving the personnel decision. Upon confirmation by the U.S. Senate, Grynkewich will officially lead approximately 100,000 U.S. troops and NATO allies stationed in Europe, enhancing European defense and responding to increasingly complex global geopolitical dynamics.
Major General Grynkewich graduated from the United States Air Force Academy in 1993 and currently serves as the Operations Director for the Joint Chiefs of Staff, responsible for developing directives for operational commands. He commanded U.S. Air Force units in the Middle East from 2022 to 2023, supporting Israeli air operations, and previously served in Central Command. He has logged over 2,300 flight hours and participated in the development of the F-16 and F-22 fighter jets.
