Fire at Spanish Nursing Home Claims 1 Life and Injures 22, Suspected Link to Oxygen Tank Explosion

A nursing home in Zaragoza, northeastern Spain, experienced a fire late Friday night, resulting in the death of a 93-year-old man and injuries to 22 others.

On Friday, at 11 PM local time, a fire broke out in a ground-floor room of the nursing home, quickly filling the building with thick smoke and prompting the evacuation of approximately 50 residents. Emergency responders, including national police, local police, firefighters, and medical personnel, rushed to assist the injured.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, however, initial assessments suggest it may have been triggered by an explosion of high-pressure oxygen tanks used in the facility. Among the injured, a woman in her 70s is reported to be in serious condition and is being monitored in the intensive care unit.

Local media reported that the deceased was a disabled elderly man who was unable to escape, with the suspected point of origin for the fire believed to be in his room.
