Two Female Students from Taichung Return Safely After Being Victims of Human Trafficking in Cambodia

Two female university students from Taichung City were reportedly misled by a job opportunity in Cambodia, leading them to be controlled by a human trafficking group within a fraudulent operation zone. Following cooperation between the Criminal Investigation Bureau and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two left the fraudulent site yesterday and returned safely to Taiwan on a flight this evening, where they were received by the Taichung police for further investigation.

According to reports, after arriving in Cambodia, the police at the Taichung City Qing Shui precinct received a report and immediately notified the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other relevant agencies. The International Section of the Criminal Investigation Bureau grasped the situation and collaborated with the overseas offices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the bureau's liaison team in Thailand and Ho Chi Minh City to trace the victims.

The bureau stated that the two victims successfully left the fraudulent zone yesterday and returned to Taiwan safely this evening. They are currently being questioned by Taichung police to clarify the domestic recruitment practices and the operations of the crime group abroad.

The Criminal Investigation Bureau warned that these fraud groups often use social media like Facebook to post high-salary job ads to attract young individuals lacking social experience. They may also lure individuals through personal acquaintances under the pretense of debt repayment or travel companionship. Upon arrival, individuals often find that the actual work is not what was promised, leading to restrictions on personal freedom and even violence.

The police urge anyone faced with unreasonable high compensation or fully inclusive overseas job offers to maintain a high level of skepticism and verify their authenticity. As the summer vacation approaches, a peak period for travel and job seeking, students are particularly advised to stay alert to avoid falling into human trafficking traps due to momentary negligence.
