Germany to Establish €90 Billion AI Superfactory, Jensen Huang to Meet Chancellor This Week

Jensen Huang, CEO of American AI chip giant NVIDIA, plans to travel to Europe this week to discuss the establishment of an AI superfactory in Germany. He is expected to meet with Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil to negotiate the details.

According to reports from Germany's Handelsblatt, the European Union is actively promoting a €20 billion AI infrastructure plan aimed at narrowing its competitive gap with the United States and China, focusing on the construction of multiple AI superfactories to train large language models.

Each factory is expected to be equipped with over 100,000 AI chips, with an estimated equipment cost reaching $3 billion, equivalent to approximately NT$898 billion. Huang is also slated to announce several investment plans related to European computing infrastructure, with major cities on his visit list including London and Paris, and he will attend the 'VivaTech' technology conference on the 10th.

The German government has shown high interest in the establishment of AI factories, already expressing a desire for at least one to be built within its borders. Analysts interpret Huang's meeting with Chancellor Merz as a potential confirmation of the site selection and collaboration framework.

However, despite Europe's enthusiastic drive for self-sustaining technology development, it currently lacks local chip manufacturers capable of competing with NVIDIA, leading the EU to consider adjusting last year’s AI legislation in line with industry needs. NVIDIA has been actively expanding globally, with Europe set to be its next strategic stronghold after securing a $10 billion deal in the Middle East.
