Chou Tien-Chen Claims Runner-Up in Indonesia Open Men's Singles, Sets Record for Oldest Finalist

35-year-old Taiwan's badminton champion, Chou Tien-Chen, participated in the Super 1000 series Indonesia Open finals today (8th). Although he narrowly missed the title, he not only returned to the Super 1000 stage but also set a historic record as the oldest player to reach the men's singles finals. Chou had previously won the Indonesia Open in 2019 and returning to the stage six years later proves his strength.
During the match, Chou displayed his skills, thrilling the audience with his performance. However, in the final moments, his opponent's defense proved too strong, leaving Chou unable to break through, and he ultimately settled for second place. This was their 12th encounter, facing Denmark's star player Antonsson, where he held three set points at the start but lost 20 to 22 due to a critical comeback from Antonsson. In the second game, although he initially took the lead, unfavorable calls and a decline in stamina led to a final score of 14 to 21, missing out on his second Indonesia Open title.
From his earlier days as Young Chou to now being a veteran of Taiwan badminton, he is also the oldest player among the top ten in the world rankings. Despite coming so close to claiming the championship, Chou has written a record as the oldest player to reach the men's singles finals in Super 1000 history. His strength and perseverance are commendable.
