China and EU Trade Warms Up: Extension of Anti-Dumping Investigation Deadline for EU Pork

On October 10, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce announced the extension of the anti-dumping investigation deadline for pork and pork products imported from the EU to December 16. The ministry cited the complexity of the case as the reason for the extension.

According to the Anti-Dumping Regulations of the People's Republic of China, the Ministry of Commerce announced on June 17, 2024, the initiation of an anti-dumping investigation into pork and pork products originating from the EU. Citing the complexities of the case, the ministry decided to extend the investigation deadline to December 16, 2025, in accordance with Article 26 of the Anti-Dumping Regulations.

The products under investigation mainly include fresh and frozen pork for human consumption and edible offal. This investigation is seen as one of China's countermeasures against the EU's imposition of counter-subsidy duties on Chinese electric vehicles.

Previously, both sides had engaged in dialogues on various trade issues. The Chinese Ministry of Commerce reported that high-level officials from China and the EU held talks in Paris on the 3rd, achieving progress on topics such as the EU's counter-subsidy tax on Chinese electric vehicles and China's anti-dumping investigation into EU brandy. Regarding the brandy investigation, French enterprises have proactively submitted price commitment applications to China, and both sides have reached consensus on core terms. China is currently reviewing the full text and plans to issue a final ruling notice containing the price commitment text by July 5. Additionally, China has committed to expedite the approval of rare earth exports, emphasizing that its export controls comply with international standards to safeguard national security and meet global demand for industries like new energy vehicles.
