Power Struggle Between California and Trump Administration

California Governor Gavin Newsom has filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration due to Defense Secretary Mark Esper's deployment of the National Guard to Los Angeles without state consent. Newsom called for the withdrawal of this action on social media, citing rising fears among Californians.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass also voiced her opposition, highlighting the pervasive atmosphere of fear affecting residents. She urged the Trump administration to cease raids on civilians. The U.S. Attorney General and Trump characterized the demonstrators as instigators, asserting that the National Guard's deployment was to protect local law enforcement.

As protests escalate, Trump ordered an increase in National Guard deployment to restore order, while Newsom plans to challenge the legality of the Marine deployment as well. The legal provisions invoked by Trump remain contentious, with experts divided on the President's authority to utilize military forces directly.

Experts note that since the 1960s, there has been no precedent for deploying federal troops without a state's consent, with the most recent case occurring in 1992 when California Governor and Los Angeles Mayor formally requested federal assistance.
