Air India Boeing 787 Crashes After Takeoff, Only One Passenger Survives

An Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner crashed today (12th) near Ahemdabad International Airport in the Indian state of Gujarat, just 30 seconds after takeoff, landing in a medical college dormitory. The flight was carrying 230 passengers and 10 crew members, with nearly all presumed dead.

Surveillance footage from the airport shows the aircraft losing engine thrust shortly after takeoff, failing to gain sufficient lift, and ultimately crashing and exploding. The Indian Civil Aviation Authority stated that the aircraft issued a 'MAYDAY' call before the crash but failed to respond to air traffic control (ATC) thereafter.

The wreckage site is filled with thick smoke; however, reports indicate that a British national seated in 11A miraculously survived, stating that the plane went down just 30 seconds after takeoff, describing the event as occurring very quickly.
