Taiwan and Japan Police Collaborate to Arrest Suspect for Threatening Japanese Politicians
A suspect living in Dongshan, Yilan, impersonated a Japanese manga artist online, threatening over 20 Japanese lawmakers and multiple political parties, claiming to detonate bombs among other threats. This led to heightened vigilance from both Taiwanese and Japanese police, resulting in the suspect's arrest and charges being filed.
Starting in May 2024, the suspect made threats on social media using the manga artist's name. On February 20 of this year, police raided his residence, discovering over ten linked anonymous accounts under the same name. The suspect admitted to his actions, revealing he wanted to provoke police investigations into the manga artist.
The impersonated manga artist later issued a statement on social media, warning followers of the impersonation and confirming contact with police for follow-up actions.
