Koka Hosts 17th Ninja Certification Exam with 130 Participants

Koka City in Shiga Prefecture, Japan, hosted the 17th "Koka Ninja Certification Exam" today (15th), attracting 130 ninja culture enthusiasts aged between 9 and 80.
The event tested participants' understanding of ninja history and skills through both written and practical examinations, aimed at promoting Koka's local culture. According to reports, the exams are divided into three levels: beginner, intermediate, and advanced, with all participants required to complete a written exam on ninja history, culture, and the names of ninjutsu.
Beginner participants could earn extra points through ninja clothing and throwing shurikens. A participant from Okayama City expressed surprise at the elaborate costumes of many attendees and stated that while some questions were unfamiliar, he remained confident about passing the exam. Another participant from Tokyo admitted that others prepared more seriously than he expected, which he found admirable, but due to lack of review, he felt less confident.
Additionally, a participant from Urayasu City in Chiba Prefecture noted that there was a significant gap between his practice results and actual performance when throwing shurikens, while another from Nagoya found that he did not score at all but still thought the experience was enjoyable overall.
The organizers stated that the aim of the exam is to educate the public about the history and culture of ninjas, enhancing their understanding of Koka City. Those who pass will receive a certification in the form of a scroll during an award ceremony, officially becoming "Koka Ninjas."
