Dead Pig Found on Kinmen Beach Tests Positive for African Swine Fever, Product Exports Halted for at Least One Week

According to reports from the Coast Guard, a dead pig was found on a beach in Jinning Township, Kinmen County, which later tested positive for African Swine Fever (ASF) virus. The Central Disaster Response Center announced that the Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine Agency responded quickly to handle and disinfect the area.

Test results indicated that the virus of the dead pig was 100% similar to the second genotype of the ASF virus circulating in mainland China. Kinmen's proximity to mainland China sometimes results in dead pigs being found washed ashore.

To prevent the spread of the disease, the Kinmen County government has thoroughly disinfected all personnel and equipment that have come into contact with the pig. Additionally, all pig farms in Kinmen County have undergone health checks, and no abnormalities have been reported so far.

According to the announcement, exports of pigs and related products from Kinmen County will be suspended for at least one week, and will only resume once no new infections are detected. The ASF situation remains critical in Asia, and the public is urged to remain vigilant.
