Dead Pig Found on Kinmen Confirmed with African Swine Fever, Agricultural Department Issues Ban

A dead pig drifting ashore was discovered on June 14 at the Chiti area of Kinmen, and subsequent tests confirmed African swine fever virus presence on June 17. The Agricultural Department announced a temporary ban until June 23 on the export of pigs and pig products from Kinmen to Taiwan and other islands, based on animal disease prevention regulations.

Following the discovery, the department executed a thorough disinfection process and incinerated the carcass. There are 25 pig farms within a 10-kilometer radius of the discovery site, and all were reported to have healthy livestock. The department reassured that qualifying producers can still export their products, urging cooperation from residents to maintain effective preventive measures.
