Chinese Student Arrested for Assisting Cheating at Tokyo TOEIC Exam

On the 18th of this month, during the TOEIC English proficiency test held in Tokyo, a 27-year-old Chinese student, Wang Likun, was arrested on suspicion of being a 'proxy' and assisting other test-takers in cheating. Reports indicate that Wang attempted to enter the exam venue using someone else's identity and was found with a small microphone, leading police to suspect he intended to transmit answers to other candidates.
The TOEIC organizers had previously notified the police about an abnormal increase in Chinese students scoring above 900 points (out of 990), raising suspicions of cheating. On the exam day, nearly 30% of the students in the same room as Wang were absent, prompting police to investigate whether he had participated in other proxy exams and if any organizations were involved.
