No Breakthrough in Europe-Iran Talks; Israel and Iran Face Potential Prolonged Conflict

Reporter: Shi Xinyu / Comprehensive Report European countries held talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian in Switzerland on the 20th, but no diplomatic breakthrough was achieved as Israel and Iran continued to exchange fire. Iran indicated that it would only consider diplomatic means if Israel 'stops its violations.' Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen claimed on the 21st that military actions have delayed Iran's nuclear weapons program by 'at least 2 to 3 years.'

Multiple European countries urged Iran to continue resolving nuclear program-related issues through diplomacy with the United States, but Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian openly stated, 'Iran will only reconsider diplomatic measures if Israel stops its aggressions and takes responsibility for its actions.' He further expressed uncertainty about trusting the U.S. after Israeli attacks, implying that the U.S. may be 'covering' Israel's actions.

Nonetheless, Amir-Abdollahian expressed support for discussions with the UK, France, Germany, and the EU, stating his willingness to meet again in the near future. UK Foreign Secretary James Cleverly, French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell emphasized the importance of easing regional tensions and maintaining communication to resolve conflicts.

Moreover, Foreign Minister Cohen stated in a public interview on the 21st that Israeli military actions have attacked hundreds of Iranian nuclear and military sites, eliminating top commanders and nuclear scientists, boasting significant achievements that allegedly delayed Tehran's nuclear weapon development potential by 'at least 2 to 3 years,' while emphasizing that they would not cease actions until all threats are eliminated.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also stated that military operations will continue until the 'threat of Iran's nuclear program and arsenal is eradicated,' expressing a readiness for a 'prolonged war.'
