Fatal Accident in Taipei's Daan District: 19-Year-Old Female Rider Killed by Crane Truck
On Saturday afternoon, around 2 PM, a fatal accident occurred near the Zhongxiao Xinsheng MRT Station in Taipei's Daan District. A 77-year-old crane truck driver, surnamed Lai, reportedly hit several riders due to a blind spot, resulting in the death of 19-year-old female rider Cai, who was crushed under the truck. The driver allegedly attempted to flee the scene but was stopped by bystanders.
Immediately after the incident, concerned citizens rushed to assist, keeping the injured awake until paramedics arrived. Witnesses reported that the driver continued to accelerate after the collision, seemingly trying to escape.
The Daan Police Department stated that preliminary investigations showed no signs of drunk driving; the cause of the accident is still under investigation.
