Brazilian Inmate Gets Stuck in Wall During Escape Attempt, Firefighters Rescue Him

A 32-year-old inmate, Alan Leandro da Silva, became trapped in a concrete wall while attempting to escape from a prison in Rio Branco, Acre, Brazil. This incident occurred on June 16, when Silva used rudimentary tools like a broomstick and nails to dig a hole for two days. He thought the opening was wide enough to squeeze through, but got stuck, leaving his upper body suspended in the wall. The prison authorities noticed strange sounds from his cell and called firefighters for assistance. Firefighters carefully used a drill to enlarge the hole, ultimately rescuing Silva without injury. They noted that his suspended position affected his blood circulation, necessitating caution during the rescue. After receiving medical attention, Silva was returned to his cell, and police are investigating the incident to clarify his responsibility for damaging prison property. Reports suggest he may have received help from a cellmate during the digging, although this has not been officially confirmed.
