New Exhibition 'Salty Winds and Flying Sand: The Return of Artists from the Salt Flats' Opens at South Taiwan Museum

The Tainan Museum of Fine Arts has launched the exhibition 'Salty Winds and Flying Sand: The Return of Artists from the Salt Flats,' curated by Wu Chi-Tao and featuring works from 18 artists from the 'salt flats.' The opening event saw Taiwanese folk music master Chen Ming-Chang performing, paying homage to the culture and memories of the salt-producing region.
The salt flats have historically been renowned for salt production, cultivating a rich local culture. Poet Wu Hsin-Jung noted in 1935, 'The salt flats are our homeland,' showcasing the emotional connection of the locals. While salt production has declined with changing times, literature and art continue to flourish, reflecting contemporary society.
The participating artists' works include ink paintings, oil paintings, prints, photography, and more, offering perspectives on land and history and connecting geography with personal narratives. Additionally, the museum’s cafe has introduced a special dish ‘Salt Pair’ for visitors to explore art through taste.
The exhibition runs from June 24 to October 26, 2025, at the Tainan Museum of Fine Arts, 2nd floor, Exhibition Rooms B–H. For more information, please visit the official website.
