China's 9-Year-Old Chess Prodigy Takes His Own Life After Father's Abuse

A 9-year-old chess prodigy, Zhu Hongxin, chose to take his own life on May 19 after enduring ongoing abuse from his father. Hailing from Quanzhou, Fujian, he had gained prominence in the chess world, winning a national children’s championship with a perfect score, yet suffered from domestic violence.

Reports indicate that after losing a match, Zhu faced public beatings from his father, who would physically assault him without any observers stepping in to help. The father was notorious for being abusive, having also inflicted violence on Zhu's mother, which led to their divorce.

Tragically, despite achieving high scores in recent competitions, Zhu could not withstand the emotional and physical toll inflicted by his father and chose to end his life. This incident has sparked widespread outrage, with many questioning the silence of spectators and organizations present during such events.
