Free National Elementary School Competes in US Little League Championship; Mayor Lu Donates Travel Expenses Plus Additional 100K

The Free National Elementary School's baseball team is set to represent Taiwan in a prestigious championship in the United States. Mayor Lu Shiow-yen and Vice President Jiang Chih-cheng worked together to raise over a million NT dollars for this endeavor. This team is the first Indigenous school baseball team in Taichung, which recently achieved victory in the '2025 Babe Ruth League World Series National Selection Tournament' to earn its spot.
On the 27th, Mayor Lu visited the school to cheer on the team and presented them with 710,000 NT dollars for travel expenses. Reflecting on her own son's challenges with inadequate funds when traveling abroad, she added an extra 100,000 NT dollars to emphasize the importance of nutrition while in the US. She also expressed gratitude to Vice President Jiang for securing corporate sponsorships.
The young players expressed their thanks through handwritten cards directed to the city government and sponsoring companies, emphasizing their determination to excel. Mayor Lu commended the school's long-term commitment to baseball, noting that after 103 years, they continue to achieve remarkable results. She hopes that the additional funds will allow players to enjoy local cuisine and enhance their experience in the US.
