Mayor Lu Shiu-yen Criticizes Lai Ching-te for 'Not Accepting Election Loss', Lawyer Mocks

The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) held its National Representatives Conference on the 28th, where President Lai Ching-te publicly supported a massive recall initiated by citizens, asserting that the DPP must partner with the public in safeguarding the country. However, this statement incited dissatisfaction from Taichung Mayor Lu Shiu-yen, who criticized the move as 'not accepting election loss' and questioned the DPP's attempt to establish monopoly power and seek reelection.
Lu emphasized that if public representatives perform poorly, the people certainly have the right to recall them, but she viewed this recall action as a 'blanket attack.' In response, lawyer Lin Chih-chun sarcastically commented online, saying, 'Does she want to run for president with this quality?' which sparked significant discussion.
Lai, in his speech at the conference, recalled that Taiwan has always seen 'precious forces' rise during critical moments, stating that throughout history, the DPP has fought alongside the people in defending Taiwan's sovereignty and democracy. He pointed out that this force is once again emerging in the face of national security challenges, urging that the DPP must walk alongside the public to share the responsibility of protecting the country. The scene was filled with enthusiasm as legislators passionately shouted, 'Mass recall, great success!'
