A tragic boating accident occurred recently in Pernambuco, Brazil, where a 38-year-old lawyer, Maria (Maria Eduarda Carvalho de Medeiros), drowned just three hours after accepting her boyfriend's marriage proposal.

According to reports, Maria was out at sea with her boyfriend, 55-year-old Serafico (Serafico Pereira Cabral Junior), on June 21 when their boat capsized after allegedly running aground at Praia de Suape, about 40 kilometers south of Recife. Maria and her dog went missing in the water while her boyfriend managed to swim to safety after three hours.

Maria's body was found on the morning of June 24 at a nearby beach, with no signs of life, while her dog remains missing. Local authorities suspect that the capsizing of the boat was related to strong currents and complex terrain in the area. Maria's cousin, Tássia, shared that she loved water activities and had been dating Serafico for about six months, frequently taking trips together.

On the day of the incident, Maria had just shared the exciting news of her engagement with family via video. They had planned to return to the city the next day to celebrate a family festival. Tássia expressed disbelief at the tragic turn of events, stating, "The sea looked calm in her video; it's hard to believe such an accident occurred."

Serafico recalled their attempt to swim back to shore together after the boat capsized, but they were separated by waves, and Maria and her dog disappeared from there. He reached the shore alone, sustaining multiple injuries, and was treated at a local hospital, where he is currently stable but emotionally devastated.

Tássia raised concerns about whether Serafico had a legal boating license, as he was the one operating the boat that day. However, it is understood that he has experience in sailing and kite surfing. Maria was a well-known lawyer in the area, described by friends and family as cheerful, ambitious, and dedicated to her work.
