Trump to Announce Potential TikTok Buyers in Two Weeks, Trade Talks with Canada on Hold

In a recent interview, U.S. President Donald Trump disclosed that he has a list of potential buyers for TikTok, the Chinese video-sharing app owned by ByteDance, and plans to announce these buyers within the next two weeks. Trump had previously announced intentions to ban TikTok during his first presidential term but postponed the ultimatum multiple times, believing the app helped him gain support from younger voters.

During an interview with Fox News, Trump stated that there are "very wealthy individuals" interested in purchasing TikTok. Legislation passed during President Biden's term requires TikTok to sever its ties with Beijing's ByteDance, or it will not be able to operate in the U.S. TikTok remains a central issue in U.S.-China trade and political tensions.

Additionally, early reports indicate that both Washington and Beijing are looking to arrange a meeting between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, which would mark their first meeting since Trump took office in January. Trump has also expressed plans to visit China later this year with U.S. business executives in an effort to ease tensions. Regarding Canada, Trump warned that if the country does not stop levying certain tariffs, U.S.-Canada trade negotiations will be indefinitely suspended.
