Brazil's KC-390 Transport Aircraft Debuts in Langkawi, Expanding into Southeast Asian Market

The KC-390 medium military multifunction transport aircraft, developed by Brazilian aerospace company Embraer, made its debut at the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition. Equipped with a fly-by-wire control system, it demonstrates outstanding flight control capabilities suitable for various missions including personnel and equipment transport, parachute drops, aerial refueling, search and rescue, and medical evacuation. This exhibition marks a significant step in Brazil's expansion into the Southeast Asian market.
With a cabin width of 3.45 meters and a height of 2.95 meters, the KC-390 boasts a high-speed capability of 470 knots and a maximum payload of 26 tons. Its cabin features retractable rollers that enable quick changes in loading configurations, allowing the transport of two M113 armored personnel carriers or one UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter, as well as accommodating 66 paratroopers or 80 armed soldiers.
The aircraft is also equipped with an automated cargo handling system that simplifies operations, requiring only one loadmaster to manage all tasks within the cabin. When paired with the Container Delivery System (CDS) and Low Velocity Air Drop (LVAD) systems, the KC-390 can achieve a maximum airdrop weight of 19 tons. Additionally, it features excellent short takeoff and landing capabilities, allowing operations in diverse terrain and climatic conditions across Southeast Asia, including unpaved or temporary runways.
Currently, the KC-390 is in service with Brazil, Portugal, and Hungary, with orders from countries including the Netherlands, South Korea, Austria, and the Czech Republic. Sweden and Slovakia have also selected this aircraft as their future main transport model. Furthermore, Embraer has established a logistics support network in the Asia-Pacific region to deepen industrial cooperation and strategic influence in Southeast Asia.
