Taiwanese Performing Arts Students Shine at German Culture Festival

Students from the National Taiwan University of Arts participated in the annual culture festival in Grevenbroich, Germany, showcasing traditional performance arts and folk techniques infused with Eastern charm that attracted both international friends and Taiwanese compatriots attending the event.

This marked the third visit of the students to Germany as part of their participation in 'Unlimited Art 2025'. Their activities included a week-long 'Taiwan Week' artistic exchange at two high schools, and their first participation in a city culture festival. Notable attendees included Mayor Klaus Krützen and Ambassador Hsieh Chih-wei from the Taipei Representative Office in Germany.

During the performance, Ambassador Hsieh delivered an opening speech and thanked the students for their hard work and achievements, expressing his gratitude for their exciting performances that moved everyone present. The local community, from the mayor to ordinary citizens, shared their excitement and enthusiasm for what was an unforgettable event of cultural diplomacy.

Mayor Krützen praised Ambassador Hsieh for promoting cultural diplomacy and acknowledged the help from the Ling Hua Education Foundation and the Cultural Association in facilitating these performances, underlining the power of art and culture to transcend language and geographical barriers, thereby fostering friendship between people.

The event featured the entire student ensemble, including a stunning Hong Kong opera performance of 'Heroes of the General,' as well as martial arts displays like 'Dance of the Flags' and 'Dance of the Bells' that exhibited their exquisite skills. The classic performance 'The Monkey King in the Dragon Palace' also received thunderous applause for its lively and humorous fight scenes.

Additionally, students presented a diverse range of performances such as an erhu solo, 'Acrobatics with Dance,' and 'Tiptoe Dance', showcasing their rich folk technique talent and artistic education outcomes. Cultural experience booths included activities like chess, origami, calligraphy, and painted facial masks. This event, combining performing arts and cultural exchange, allowed the German public to gain a closer understanding of Taiwan and helped cultivate confidence and competence in young students on the international stage while enhancing the friendship and cultural connection between Taiwan and Germany.
