New Immigrant from Peru, Chen Lisi, Shares Culinary Culture

Chen Lisi, a new immigrant from Peru, has recently obtained her permanent residency and served as a lecturer at the Tainan City Second Service Station of the Southern District Affairs Team of the Immigration Department. She utilized the theme of ‘Sky City’ Machu Picchu to combine natural scenery and cultural elements, guiding attendees through the ancient civilizations of South America.
Chen, who loves Eastern culture, learned Chinese through Taiwanese dramas and met her husband, a Spanish speaker from Taiwan, during her university internship. After years of a long-distance romance, they married, and she moved to Taiwan to settle down.
She enjoys cooking traditional Peruvian dishes and sharing wonderful moments with her family. During the event, she spoke to the attendees in both Mandarin and Spanish, noting that Taiwanese people tend to be reserved and orderly, while Peruvians are passionate and spontaneous. Although the cultural differences are stark, both share deeply touching emotions.
At the event, Chen prepared a homemade ‘Special Chicken Rice’ using tomatoes, onions, tender chicken, and various spices, slowly simmering them and serving over fluffy rice to great acclaim. Looking ahead, she plans to open a private restaurant to introduce more people to her Peruvian homeland through culinary experiences, gradually realizing her dreams and values.
The director of the Second Service Station, Hu Pengxiang, remarked that Chen's introduction to Peruvian culture allows the community to explore global diversity and expand their horizons, adding warmth and resonance to a multicultural society.
