World-Class Children's Library 'Woodland of Books' Designed by Tadao Ando Breaks Ground in Taichung
Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Tadao Ando, the 'Woodland of Books' is Taiwan’s first library specifically designed for children, located in Taichung’s Qihong Valley Ecological Park. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on the 23rd, hosted by Mayor Lu Xiuyan, with completion anticipated by the end of next year.
The library aims to create a child-centric reading space, utilizing a substantial amount of fair-faced concrete architecture and an encircling book wall to create a warm environment for children to read. On the day of the ceremony, Tadao Ando joined the event virtually, and Mayor Lu Xiuyan, alongside children, scooped the first shovelful of earth, wishing for a smooth construction process.
Inspired by the fairy tale spirit of 'Green Apple Heart', this library will become the 50th library in Taichung, enhancing the city’s cultural energy and international perspective.
